war of words
OK, this post totally expresses where we are in the Edwards house. My greatest prayer request lately is Psalm 19:14:
"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in your sight,
O LORD, my rock and my redeemer."
BECAUSE my words, tone, attitude, and expression toward my children during their arguments can often be lacking in gentleness, calmly pointing them to the better alternative. I am inconvenienced by the disruption of peace in my house that I crave (idolize?) and irritated by the tension wrecking havoc in my ears.
And yet, they need me to be a "thermostat" rather than a "thermometer" - setting the tone rather than reading their tone...bringing them down to calmly and lovingly bearing with one another instead of allowing their conflict to raise my tension to meet theirs.
So, there are two books that are helpful here:
